–Harrisburg, PA — May 19, 2011 —  The Boys and Girls Club of Central Pennsylvania and Trips for Kids (TFK) are proud to announce the formation of Trips for Kids of Harrisburg. TFK is a non-profit providing mountain bike outings and environmental education for kids who would not otherwise be exposed to such activities.

Trips For Kids of Harrisburg will provide bike trips to Harrisburg area youth ages 10 to 18 in conjunction with other local non-profit and government organizations that serve our children. “The objective is to build body, mind and spirit, increase respect for self and the outdoors, and by all means to have fun” said Scott Shepler, Director and founder.

Trips will occur primarily on the Capital Area Greenbelt, a 20 mile walking and biking trail around and in the City of Harrisburg. Trips will last approximately four hours and begin in Reservoir Park.  Participants will begin each trip with a bike and helmet fitting and a safety overview that includes safe riding tips and rules of the road.

Trips For Kids of Harrisburg is sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club with the support of Yvonne Hollins, Executive Director, and James Jones, Program Director. Other local supporters include Recycle Bicycle of Harrisburg, the Capital Area Greenbelt Association, PA Walks and Bikes, Jaguar Harrisburg,  American Steel and Aluminum, Eshenaur’s Fuels, Joe Gravino Body & Paint Shop, Holmes Cycling and Fitness, and the Harrisburg Bicycle Club.

Five bicycles for TFK have been donated by Trek and helmets have been donated by the national Trips for Kids organization.

Anyone wishing to volunteer to help with the chapter would be greatly appreciated.
